About Gen. Schaeffer[]
General Schaeffer, who replaced the transferred General Martin Petersen thinks highly of his astronauts in the NASA Space Exploration Program, namely, Majors's Nelson and Healey, but at times, is prodded by Dr. Bellows to investigate the strange things that occur when Jeannie performs one of her spells. Although he generally is a good commander who cares greatly for the welfare of his men, he does not like them to profit in the private sector from their celebrity as astronauts, nor does he have patience for the many hucksters, scam artists, or advertisers who would like to use any of his astronauts in the space program or any other person who works at NASA to appear in any commercial ads, as in the case of Tony, whose Cousin Arvel solicits Jeannie ror, as she is able to blink his image in his spacesuit on the cans of Arvel's product, Cousin Tony's Texas Chili, in the series finale episode, "My Master, the Chili King".
Like Dr. Bellows, and General Peterson, whom he succeed as the Base Commander, General Schaeffer is also in the dark about Jeannie not only being a genie, but also about her powers.
