Have You Heard The One About the Used Car Salesman? is the fifth episode of Season 4 of I Dream of Jeannie, and the 92nd overall episode of the series. Written by James Henerson and directed by Hal Cooper, it first aired 4 November 1968 on NBC.
Summary[]
When Jeannie begs Tony to allow her to accompany him to a local TV show studio where he's to appear on a public affairs program, he refuses to allow her to come.
He asks her to bleed the brakes while he checks them. When she accidentally hits the accelerator while Tony is checking his car's battery, which causes her to crash the car into a light pole. The officer gives Tony a ticket for it.
Anyhow, Jeannie is able to get Tony, who was pressed for time, to the studio on time simply by blinking him there, as they meet Mrs. Bellow's cousin, Homer Banks, who is quickly smitten with Jeannie, as she causes him to spill coffee from a machine in the studio lobby on himself, in trying to ward off his amorous advances
After Jeannie crashes Tony's car, it's brought to a used car dealer, Tucker's Motors, to be repaired. The dealer, Carl Tucker into selling the car to him for $400, this after he tries to sell it to her, damaged (and before she told him that she wrecked it) , at 4 times the cost!
After returning the favor to fast-talking Carl the used car lot owner, Jeannie, not wanting to drive the car unlicensed, lets the car "drive itself" back to the house, when the traffic cop stops the car again, in disbelief at what he sees!
He stops her, or rather, the car, and sees her in the backseat. As she asks "Was I speeding?", he says to her, "Lady, why are you persecuting me?" "It's because I'm a cop, right? And you just hate cops, huh? I mean, everybody hates cops nowadays!"
When she and Tony are brought into the police station for questioning, Tony, with a little help from Jeannie's magic, is able to get him to believe that Jeannie is a computer (she disappears in thin air) and the car is a special remote control space device!
When Dr. Bellows arrives at the police station to find out what's going on, and the cop finds out that he's a psychiatrist, he responds "Good. Could you spare me about an hour? You see, I I think I need help!"
